Position
Maurice heads the international arbitration group, specialising in commercial and investment disputes in the natural resources sector. Recent arbitration experience ranges from an ICSID arbitration concerning the expropriation of mining interests, to representing clients in commercial disputes involving, warranty and indemnities, oil storage and transportation rights, pipeline construction, commodities contracts and S67 jurisdictional challenges under the Arbitration Act 1996. He is also an experienced insurance disputes litigator with particular coverage and recoveries experience relevant to construction, power generation and industrial property risks. Recent insurance sector experience includes acting for CAR insurers in a London arbitration concerning the construction of a crude oil pipeline in Ecuador; acting for insurers in connection with property and CAR issues occurring in the course of a project to expand power generation and distribution capacities within a major industrial complex in the Middle East and advising reinsurers in relation to physical damage and business interruption losses at a hydrocarbons refinery in Venezuela. He also represented subrogating insurers and their insureds in recovery proceedings for property and business interruption losses caused by the Buncefield explosion.
