In one high-profile mandate, Chris Wilkinson and Neil Sagoo are advising the Government of the United States of America on the sale of its embassy building at Grosvenor Square and the relocation to its new site in South London. In the alternatives space, newly promoted partner Anastasia Klein assisted Mace with the acquisition of a site for a student accommodation and PRS development. The team also acted for London & UK Property in relation to the sale and leaseback of a student accommodation development site in Birmingham. Letting highlights have included Roger Thornton acting for FremantleMedia in relation to the lease of its London HQ at Tottenham Court Road, and Declan Power assisting Capula Investment Management with the move of its London HQ to a newly opened premises in Mayfair. Power has also handled a number of deals involving shopping centre assets, which included advising Legal & General Assurance on a redevelopment project at the Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole. Martin Smith joined the team from Hewitsons.

Sam Nichols heads non-contentious work at Maples Teesdale LLP, which has seen recent expansion with Michael Craik joining in January 2018 from Clarke Willmott LLP where he was head of construction, and Mary Romanov  joining from New Zealand firm Meredith Connell. Recent highlights include advising on the construction elements of the sale of the world’s largest “co-living” scheme at Old Oak Common in West London; and advising on the £170m design and construction of a new high-rise building including 706 units of residential accommodation at Canary Wharf. The firm was also appointed by Conran and Partners to advise on current schemes including Centre Point London, Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Maples Teesdale LLP added Alteris Capital, ICICI Bank UK and OakNorth Bank to its strong existing client base, which includes Lloyds Bank, Maslow Capital and Tristan Capital. The firm has been particularly active in investment and development finance, especially in relation to the residential and student accommodation sectors; practice head Chen Ikeogu, who is noted for his 'organisation and commercial appreciation', advised Maslow on a series of transactions to fund the acquisition and development of residential schemes and student accommodation in Uxbridge, Coventry, Durham and Manchester. On the borrower side, highlights included advising a core plus fund vehicle managed by Tristan Capital on the £71m acquisition of the Interchange office building in Croydon. Katherine Watts is also noted. Ajoy Bose-Mallick left for Pemberton Greenish LLP in December 2017; Rohan Campbell joined from Irwin Mitchell in May 2018.
