Penningtons Manches Cooper's clinical negligence team delivers an 'impeccable level of service within excellent response times'. Brain and birth injuries, as well as amputation, oncological, sepsis, cauda equina and orthopaedic claims, are some of the multi-track areas which are handled on a national and cross-border level, while the team also engages in lower-value cosmetic surgery and product liability matters. A highlight from 2017 was Alison Appelboam-Meadows' settlement of a matter in which the claimant suffered a placental abruption and lost her baby following the negligent treatment of her unusual CTG tracing results. The 'knowledgeable, professional and caring' practice co-lead Philippa Luscombe and associate Emma Beeson are recommended. Associate director Alison Johnson heads the maternal and gynaecological injuries team.

Penningtons Manches Cooper's personal injury team 'provides a very good, proactive service and achieves appropriate settlements', with particular expertise in brain injury, fatal accident, product liability, cosmetic treatment and foreign travel cases, as well as group litigation matters. A highlight of 2017 was an occupiers' liability claim, handled by department lead Philippa Luscombe, against a hospital trust concerning a catastrophic brain injury that the cognitively impaired claimant sustained when they attempted to leave hospital and consequently suffered a fall due to unsecured accesses and furniture placed adjacent to safety rails. Senior associates Lucie Prothero and Charles O'Brien make up the rest of the core team, while partner Mark Lee heads the international travel claims department.
