Position
Pensions partner in employment, pensions and benefits group. Experience in advising companies and trustees on all kinds of corporate-sponsored pension provision in a range of industries, particularly the risk aspects funding and management of large defined benefit schemes and corporate restructuring and reorganisation. Acted in water privatisation and has, as a consequence, considerable knowledge of former public sector pension arrangements. In 2006, acted for Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in establishment of new industry arrangements and for CSN in its bid for Corus. In 2007 acted for the trustees of the Shipbuilding Industries Pension Schemes and for Groupe Norbert Dentressangle in its acquisition of Christian Salvesen Plc. Has, over recent years, advised Pernod Ricard SA in relation to the Allied Domecq pension arrangements, including a number of scheme mergers, funding negotiations and the acquisition of Absolut Vodka. Advised EMI in relation to the 2010 resolution of its funding dispute before the pensions regulator and the trustees of the Royal Doulton Pension Plan in relation to employer insolvency and PPF entry. Also noted for her international and US practice, advising clients such as TPG in relation to pensions aspects of their acquisitions of IHS in 2009-10 and GE oil and gas in relation to pensions issues arising from a joint venture.

Trained Emmett & Tacon, Norwich; qualified 1978; worked abroad 1978-80; Lovell, White & King 1980-83; founding and managing partner Ellison Westhorp; partner and head of pensions Hammonds (including latterly head of international benefits) 1994-2006; partner Macfarlanes 2006 to date. Publications: ‘Pensions: the New Law’ (Jordan, 1995); ‘Pensions Disputes and Resolution’; ‘Pensions Act 2004’.
