Guto is an Associate in the Commercial Disputes team. Heresolves a wide range of commercial disputes, with an emphasis on business disputes, intellectual property and insolvency. 

Guto has acted in high value contractual disputes, urgent injunction applications and complex intellectual property matters including copyright and trade mark infringement, breach of confidence and passing off.  Over the past 7 years, he has led Capital’s Debt Recovery team and his aptitude for resolving disputes is an asset that seeps into his debt recovery advice.

He has experience of leading a team of lawyers through a variety successful campaigns; from a project for The Royal Mint Limited which saw him recovering thousands of historic debts that had been written off internally, to dealing with a complicated High Court claim against the Welsh Government worth over £4m. That claim was funded through our own litigation fund, Capital Dispute Finance.

Able to provide a fully integrated service to a wide variety of stakeholders including debtors, creditors and IPs, by virtue of a strong litigation offering (which is able to leverage the firm's innovative litigation fund) and a debt recovery facility by dint of the firm's "Capital Collect" debt service,  Capital Law Limited  has broad coverage across the panoply of contentious and non-contentious mandates and provides a 'sophisticated understanding of the insolvency and restructuring market'. Praised for his 'very practical and down-to-earth approach to litigation', Philip Jones  is regularly involved in contentious insolvency matters including fraud cases and directors’ duties claims; Jones recently advised the liquidator of London Welsh Rugby Football, work which included advice on several asset disposals. Senior associate Maria Coggins regularly advises IPs and corporates on insolvency and restructuring matters, while associate Guto Llewelyn leads on the debt recovery front.

Headed by the 'attentive and responsive' Wayne Beynon, Capital Law LLP's two-partner team provides a 'thorough service' across the gamut of IP matters for clients including Royal Mint, Cardiff City Football Club and the British Medical Association. The team has been particularly active in the fintech sector, where Nicola McNeely (who has 'an excellent knowledge of IP law') has been instrumental in the work for Royal Mint on the establishment of its groundbreaking digital asset trading platform for gold (work which included expertise in relation to the blockchain technology it uses). Online copyright infringement work is another area of growth for the team, as illustrated by Beynon's partnership with Pixsy to provide copyright litigation services to its clients in the UK. Associate Guto Llewelyn is gaining a growing reputation for handling contentious IP work including his representation of Memoria, one of the UK's leading funeral service providers, in trade mark infringement proceedings against one of its main competitors.
