Elliot Weston is a partner in the tax practice with a broad experience of corporate tax matters. He has advised extensively on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, funds, capital raisings, corporate reorganisations and financing transactions. Elliot regularly acts for investors and fund managers on the formation, downstream investment and capital raising of private and listed funds, in the UK and internationally.

The London tax department at Hogan Lovells International LLP is led by acquisitions and disposals expert Philip Harle and houses global tax co-head, Karen Hughes, who is instructed by a broad roster of international clients. Harle advised the Department of Education on the secularisation of £4bn of income contingent repayment student loans, providing detailed analysis of UK tax issues for the securitisation vehicle, drafting and negotiating legal documentation and leading on the preparation of HMRC clearance. Hughes advised GE Healthcare on the tax implications of the $85m sale of GE Healthcare Dharmacon to Horizon Discovery Group. Elliot Weston advised NorthStar Realty Europe and China Resources Land on the tax aspects of their £300m joint venture and acquisition of the office block, 20 Gresham Street. Weston also assisted The British Land Company with the tax aspects of the structuring and execution of the unwinding of the company's joint venture with Tesco. Fabrizio Lolliri and Tom McFarlane lead on transfer pricing and supply chain matters.

Hogan Lovells International LLP's indirect tax department is representing Citibank in its appeal against an HMRC assessment requiring the company to meet the cost of a VAT fraud committed by other parties. It is also advising eBay, following press coverage of the evasion of VAT by its service-users, on UK legislation and its attendance at a Public Accounts Committee hearing. Other clients include British American Tobacco and Mercedes Benz Financial Services. Key individuals include 'very experienced senior partner' and global co-head of tax Karen Hughes , 'measured and deeply technical' Rupert Shiers and Elliot Weston, who specialises in SDLT issues. Lee Squires left the department in June 2018.
