Position

Sandeep is the managing partner of the Emerging Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) region at Linklaters and also head of the firm’s India practice. Prior to joining Linklaters in 1990, he worked in the financial services sector. Sandeep has over 20 years’ experience supporting and advising clients with their emerging markets businesses and has worked in a number of jurisdictions including India, the Middle East, Africa and CIS. He has also built extensive relationships with corporates and financial institutions in emerging markets who are themselves emerging as future global players. His principal areas of focus have been (i) corporate and finance transactions across a number of sectors including pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, consumer and telecoms, and (ii) energy and infrastructure projects in emerging markets. Highlights of his experience include landmark transactions such as: acting for BP on their USD 7bn investment into Reliance Industries; the sponsors on the privatisation of the Bangalore airport the first international airport to be privatised in India; Mayne Group on its joint venture arrangements with Zydus/Cadila Healthcare; advising the sponsors on the Dabhol Power Project and more recently advising Russian companies on overseas acquisitions, and global consumer groups as they expand their footprint in Africa.

Career

Banker in structured finance and projects group at NatWest 1982-89; trainee solicitor Linklaters, London 1990-92; assistant solicitor projects group 1992-2000; partner projects group 2000; secondment as general counsel to a major energy utility 1999-2000; head of the India Group since 2004; regional managing partner of EEMEA since 2010. Sandeep is a trustee of WaterAid UK and also WaterAid International.
