Nick specialises in restructuring and insolvency. He is based in London and has extensive experience of restructuring and insolvency transactions across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the U.S., with a particular focus on complex, cross-border situations which call for innovative and flexible thinking and solutions. 

Nick advises clients across the capital structure, including senior and mezzanine lenders, bondholders, distressed investors and distressed corporates, and has been involved in many of the market’s most significant restructuring transactions over recent years. He has advised on a number of complex multijurisdictional restructurings, bank/bond restructurings, schemes of arrangement, security enforcement exercises and insolvencies. He also has extensive experience of bank recovery and resolution transactions.

Nick is also the market leading expert on the use of schemes of arrangement in the context of the mis-selling of regulated financial products.

Before returning to the firm in 2012, Nick worked for over two years as an executive director and assistant general counsel for one of the firm’s major investment banking clients.

Work highlights:

Nick has acted on a wide range of market-leading restructuring deals. Recent examples include advising:

  • an ad hoc committee of bondholders on the restructuring of an Eastern European steel and mining business
  • an ad hoc committee of bondholders on the restructuring of Punch Taverns
  • an ad hoc committee of bondholders on the restructuring of Dana Gas
  • the senior lenders on the restructuring of a Portuguese toll road
  • an ad hoc committee of lenders on the re-scheduling, via a scheme of arrangement of the financial indebtedness of Guardian Digital Communications and the subsequent sale of such business to Motorola
  • an ad hoc committee of lenders on the restructuring of HC Starck
  • the senior lenders on the restructuring of two European gas-fired power stations
  • the business partners of Card Protection Plan (CPP) on CPP’s groundbreaking consumer redress scheme of arrangement
  • the business partners of Affinion on Affinion’s groundbreaking
