International and group claims.

Position

Partner in the international and group claims department. Specialist area of practice: representing international claimants in multi party and product liability litigation with expertise in environmental claims; claims against the Ministry of Defence including torture and military equipment failures. Cases handled: representing 73 Colombian farmers against a UK multinational corporation for alleged environmental damage caused to their land due to the construction of an oil pipeline. Represented 52 Colombian farmers in an earlier group action which settled by way of mediation in 2006; representing UK soldiers who were injured in a friendly fire incident in Iraq against the Ministry of Defence alleging equipment failure; represented the family of Baha Mousa and a number of Iraqis against the Ministry of Defence for alleged torture and maltreatment committed by the British Army.

Publications of note: Wrote chapter 11 entitled ‘Current Trends and Future Effects in Transnational Litigation against Corporations in the United Kingdom’ in the book ‘Corporate Responsibility for Human Rights Impacts – New Expectations and Paradigms’ by the American Bar Association (2014). Current directorships: Trustee of the Harinder Veriah (UK) Trust.
