Clinical negligence.

Position

Nicola specialises exclusively in clinical negligence. Nicola runs a varied caseload of complex cases. Many of her cases are high value, including cases arising from brain damage caused by birth injuries and also a number of extremely complex and very high value cases arising from brain injuries suffered by children as a result of infectious diseases and neonatal illness. Nicola has a particular interest in claims related to infectious diseases such as meningitis, TB or HSV. Nicola also has a number of cases arising from surgical errors and delays in diagnosis, for example, of ectopic pregnancy, appendicitis and cancer, including melanoma and sarcoma. Nicola specialises in cases which may be of lower monetary value but are of utmost importance to her clients, such as fatal claims, especially those arising from the death of babies or children, in which cases she also acts for her clients in relation to the Inquests into the deaths of their loved ones. Nicola is the author of the section on clinical negligence on Westlaw UK Insight, Westlaw’s online encyclopaedia of UK law. Nicola is the Secretary of Association of Personal Injury Lawyers’, APIL’s, Special Interest Group on Procedure and has lectured at APIL’s Regional Forum. She has also lectured for AvMA. In 2011 Nicola gave evidence to the Health Select Committee on the issues of NHS complaints and litigation funding, alongside the Chief Executive of the Law Society and the President of APIL.
