Work Department

Clinical negligence.

Position

Olive is considered a leading lawyer in the field of clinical negligence. She is a former registered nurse and is committed to acting on behalf of claimants in a wide variety of complex cases. Her clients include those who have suffered brain damage, neurological damage including cauda equina, damage as a result of endocarditis and other cardiac causes, and as a result of poor care provided by GPs and A&E departments, as well as fatal claims. Olive obtained the highest settlement ever for a pure deafness case of over £4m. Olive has recently settled a number of cerebral palsy claims where six figure sums were obtained on behalf of her clients, ensuring that they have adequate care, therapies, accommodation and equipment for the rest of their lives. Olive regularly takes on cases with complex medical issues, for example those involving lithium and gentamicin toxicity which has resulted in devastating injuries, spinal cord injury resulting in paraplegia, anaesthetic cases resulting in brain damage. Olive also regularly acts on behalf of clients with 3rd and 4th degree tears. Olive has taken on cases which have been abandoned by other firms of solicitors and has a reputation for being able to turn them around and getting damages for those clients. Olive also has experience of professional negligence claims against solicitors. She has advised the British Cardiology Society on Human Rights for the 5th UK Cardiology Review and is a member of Scope, the organisation for people with cerebral palsy. Olive joined Leigh Day in 1991, becoming a partner in 1998. Olive is assisted by Mary Maddocks, Solicitor.
