Position
Managing partner. Hugh specialises in corporate finance (flotations and secondary issues), takeovers, mergers, acquisitions, disposals, private equity, venture and development capital (including investment agreements and joint ventures). Particularly interested in acting for entrepreneurs, small/medium-sized growth companies and medium-sized investment banks/corporate finance houses. Recent experience has involved a reasonable amount of work in the healthcare sector (mainly with nursing homes, healthcare staffing and domiciliary care provision) and in the renewable energy sector (wind and biodiesel). These include: Caring Homes – advised on £600m refinancing with Bank of Scotland, including acquisition and development facilities, and equity capital; Clipper Windpower plc – advised on its £200m flotation on AIM, secondary equity raising and joint development agreement with BP; Jeremy Fry, Chris Powell and others on the management buy in team on the £9m purchase by Advantage Healthcare of the nurse staffing business from BUPA; Guy Naggar, Peter Klimt and the other corporate and management shareholders in Craftbutton Limited (owners of Chez Gerrard, Cafe Fish, Livebait and Bertorelli’s restaurants) on the £35m sale of the company to PPM Ventures.
