Richard is a partner and head of the firm's commercial contracts team. He joined JMW from national law firm Pinsent Masons in August 2014 having spent 12 years there. Richard has experience of advising clients on a wide range of commercial matters including key long term supply agreements and outsourcing agreements assisting clients to maximise value from key relationships. He has advised clients on a variety of methods to get product and services to market including the establishment of strategic partnerships, the appointment of agents and distributors and the establishment of franchise networks. Richard also advises clients on the associated consumer issues including sales promotions and consumer protection legislation. Richard regularly advises clients in relation to IT contracts including the procurement of hardware and development of software. He also advises clients in relation to the commercialisation and protection of their intellectual property. Recent experience includes:

advising a leading retailer on the procurement of a multi channel IT platform, advising a newly formed group of accountancy practices in relation to a suite of documents governing their relationship with the member firms, advising a professional services consolidator in relation to their agreements to enable a small business advice offering and advising a sports governing body on a long term partnering and sponsorship agreement.

JMW Solicitors LLP's ‘knowledgeable’ and ‘down-to-earth’ team has a ‘great reputation’ for local, national and international transactions. Department head Mike Blood  led advice for Boels-Gosink on the its expansion into the UK market with its £14m acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Supply UK. Blood is also leading advice for PSL (PTY) Ltd, the South African Premier League, on its £1bn tender process for the media rights for all PSL competitions for five seasons. Elsewhere, Damien Brown, who joined the team in 2017 from Shoosmiths LLP, advised Eurofins Scientific on the £6m acquisition of the entire issued share capital of York EMC Services from the University of York, and on the same client's £31m acquisition of the forensics and security division of LGC Limited. The ‘fantastic’ Mark Heppell  advised Universal Tanker Services Group on its £7m acquisition of Waters Waste Services and Richard Parkinson  advised Hurlingham Polo Association on its sponsorship and partnering agreement with Flannels. Vicky Protano joined Mills & Reeve LLP in 2018.
