TGS Baltic’s impressive range of clients includes new client wins Imlitex, EstateGuru and IBS Lithuania. It has sector-specific expertise in energy, infrastructure and aviation; team head Vilius Bernatonis acted for Lietuvos Energija and its subsidiary Vilniaus Kogeneracinė Jėgainė on securing €190m from the EIB for the greenfield construction of power plants. Vidmantas Drizga heads the capital markets and corporate departments and acted for listed company INVL Technology on its conversion to a special closed-ended investment company. Jūratė Kūgytė left the firm.

Dispute resolution

The team at TGS Baltic handles a strong mix of banking, shipping and investment disputes. Alongside an international law firm, Vilius Bernatonis is representing the Vilnius city municipality in an investor-state arbitration with Veolia Environnement; the case has been brought in parallel with a claim against the Republic of Lithuania by Veolia Environnement where the firm is also representing the defendant. Bernatonis also acts for Snoras in its claim against Meinl Bank over breached AML requirements. The ‘vastly experienced’ Valentinas Mikelėnas and Lina Darulienė, respective heads of the arbitration and litigation practices, are well regarded. Albertas Šekštelo, formerly a senior associate with the firm, joined Motieka & Audzevicius in October 2018.

TGS Baltic has a track record of involvement in landmark power and infrastructure projects, covering initial project financing to potential disputes. Vilius Bernatonis is representing the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania in a multijurisdictional contract dispute with Veolia Environnement. The team, which includes Eugenija Sutikenė, has been involved in the rejuvenation of the heating infrastructure of Vilnius and Kaunas, and also acted as counsel to the private partners in a PPP project for the comprehensive renovation of Vilnius’ street lighting. Paulius Zapolskis is recommended.

TGS Baltic handles aviation and shipping matters, with a strong roster of public sector clients. Vilius Bernatonis and Daiva Ušinskaitė-Filonovienė continue to advise Lithuanian Railways on the procurement issues regarding the Rail Baltica project. Vidmantas Drizga is assiting Lithuanian Airports with procurement matters. In the private sector, Lina Darulienė represents CMA CGM in a cross-border dispute over allegedly lost cargo. The firm also handles aircraft leasing work.
