The firm

Marie-Emmanuelle Haas is an attorney at law before the Paris Bar, working in her own boutique Law firm ME HAAS, which focuses on intellectual property and digital law.

Before starting her own law firm in 2014, she worked in intellectual property/NTIC specialised firms: ALAIN BENSOUSSAN LAWYERS (1994 to 2007), as director of the trademarks and domain names department, of which she built up the team, and CASALONGA AVOCATS (2007 to 2013).

Marie-Emmanuelle Haas started working on internet issues in the late 1990s, at the beginning of the internet in Europe, and is regarded in France as one of the pioneers of alternative dispute resolution and domain name law. She has developed a practice linking advice and strategy for the creation and protection of IP rights with their defense, both in France and abroad.

Marie-Emmanuelle Haas is an expert before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center, the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (ADNDRC), the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC) and the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) for the resolution of domain name disputes. She renders, on average, one decision a month.

Marie-Emmanuelle Haas is a guest lecturer at the University of Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne on ‘internet litigation’. She frequently gives talks and training courses on intellectual property and digital law. She is a certified trainer and offers professional training services.

Over the years, Marie-Emmanuelle Haas has published numerous articles on domain names, trademarks and the internet. Every year, she publishes her comments on French court’s decisions on domain names in ‘Propriété Industrielle’ (Lexis Nexis).

  • The new French regulation applying to national insurance contributions for managers and shareholders

    French insurance contributions on executive and shareholder remuneration (pay + dividends) have been substantially increased by the National Insurance Funding for 2013 Act, No. 2012-1404, of 17th December 2012. Until 31st December 2012, all dividends were subject to national insurance contributions on unearned income but henceforth, under Article L136-3 of the National Insurance Code, amended by Act No. 2012-1404, certain dividends   are considered as pay received by executives and shareholders and are therefore subject to the national insurance contributions on pay. The Act also abolished the ceiling on health insurance contributions payable by the self-employed and all this means that businesses must rethink the way that they have been structured until now.
