Position

Mr Akkad is a full-service provider with over 20 years of experience in diverse practice areas within the region, and consults a variety of national and international clients on commercial, corporate, franchise, agency, distributorship, license, real estate, construction, FIDIC, BOT/BOOT, Islamic finance, banking and foreign investment laws, agreements and matters, as well as having a strong record in representing clients in litigation and arbitration for a variety of commercial matters and engineering-related matters. Mr Akkad is a leading lawyer in KSA and the Middle East region, with respect to franchising, agency, distributorship and licensing agreements and matters. To date, he has advised and worked on more than (300) franchise agreements, distributorship agreements and license agreements, including the following well-known commercial brands: Subway International, Calvin Klein, D&G, Guess, Esprit, Rebook, Second Cup, Ikea, Levis, Cartier, Applebee’s, Outback Steakhouse International, Max Mara, Stefanel, Barnies, Ebel Watches, Sleep High, Go Sport, Vans Co. Ltd., Arabian Oud, Tony Roma’s Restaurant and Wing Zones. Further, he has advised and worked on mega projects including: advising many major foreign entities regarding establishing JV in KSA and associating foreign LLC before SAGIA, including advising one of the foreign investors in ‘Al- Shobily Project’ referred to as a ‘mega project’ on the SAGIA website (set to attract 60bn SAR in KSA) and the merger and acquisition of two major foreign and KSA pharmaceutical companies; AMLAK Group which is the second largest real estate company in UAE; the Riyadh ‘Metro Project’ (approx value of 22.5bn SAR); a project to construct and operate 20 towers and hotels in Makkah (approx value 7bn SAR); a Mecca hospitality project by the Bogary Group (approx value 170m SAR); hotel operation agreements for internationally valued brands (over 300 room keys), the HQ Business Park Towers in Jeddah (approx value 2.5bn SAR); worded on Al Mada Towers (approx value 3bn SAR); and advising on Lamar Towers project (approx value 2.25bn SAR).

Career

Trainee and junior associate with Hammad & Al-Mehdar law firm 1997-2000; admitted Saudi Arabia 1998; associate with the Alliance of Abbas F Ghazzawi & Co and Hammad & Al-Mehdar law firm 2000-04; legal advisor for the National Commercial Bank 2004-05; and founder and managing partner of Sharif Akkad Law Firm (MAK) from 2004 to date.
