Position

Partner handling all classes of insurance and reinsurance dispute, related professional and executive indemnity issues and policy/programme and wording questions. Specialist in London market issues. Special counsel in the insurance and reinsurance group. Major appellate cases include Pine Top v Pan Atlantic (House of Lords), Denby v English & Scottish; PCWSyndicates v PCWReinsurers and HOTT v Sivand. Major High Court actions include Syndicate 90 Names Action v Winchester Bowring; Mander v Commercial Union; Owner of the Solway Harvester v Syndicate 1/83, plus numerous confidential investigations, arbitrations and settlements; advised Lloyd’s brokers on Reconstruction & Renewal and London insurance market (both brokers and Lloyd’s) on LMP 2001 and on contract certainty. 2010 caseload ranged from Californian wildfires to piracy to regulatory challenges.

Trained Ince & Co; qualified 1984; partner 1991. Speaker on major re/insurance issues in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. Editor of the firm’s Insurance and reinsurance publications. ‘A matter of Forms and substance’ Lloyd’s Mar. & Comm.
