Career

Dr. Stefan Segger is a partner in our insurance and reinsurance team with more than 15 years’ experience in the sector. Before joining Ince Stefan worked in-house for Gerling as a member of the Group Legal team and was an equity partner in an international law firm. He is an experienced litigator and has advised on several transactions in the insurance industry.

Stefan specialises in insurance contract law, with particular focus on major and complex claims and distribution law. He regularly drafts wordings for the insurance industry and advises on competition and corporate law issues. He represents his clients in all forms of dispute resolution, using alternative methods as well as litigation. In the German market he is considered to be among the country’s top lawyers for insurance law.

Stefan is a lecturer on credit and bond insurance in a postgraduate LL.M. program at the University of Muenster. His publications comprise a wide range of topics, especially in the field of P&C insurance. They include several of the leading legal commentaries in Germany for both insurance contract and supervisory law.

The opening of Ince’s Cologne office in 2016, its second German office alongside Hamburg, is now bearing fruit. The ‘very well-versed and solution-oriented’ team, which is co-led by Stefan Segger, Eva-Maria Goergen and Markus Eichhorst, focuses on assisting liability insurers and reinsurers with coverage matters and on liability defence work. It also has expertise in product liability matters in the pharmaceutical, life sciences and food industries as well as energy sector-related property and technical insurance issues. The practice also acts as D&O monitoring counsel.
