Position
Denys is a partner and the Head of Energy & Offshore Group, Asia Pacific Region. He has a strong reputation for offshore oil and gas including drilling, pipelay, offshore oil and gas projects, supply vessels, LNG vessel charters and FPSOs as well as oil and gas insurance matters, oilfield re-determination problems and pipeline construction. Denys has acted for a number of National oil companies and for several of the biggest independent oil traders over the last 30 years. His trading experience includes metals and soft commodities, subject to LME, GAFTA and FOSFA arbitration. He also has substantial experience of trade finance, swaps and derivatives, and both OTC and exchange traded freight futures. Denys is also well known for arbitration and dispute resolution, and has acted as both arbitrator and mediator. His experience includes ad hoc arbitrations and arbitrations under SIAC, SCMA, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, and LMAA rules.
Career
Following a law degree and a postgraduate Diploma in International Law, Denys qualified as a barrister. He received a practical Training Award, was awarded the Goldie Scholarship and was the winner of the Band Trust Practical Scholarship at Gray’s Inn. Denys then re-qualified as a solicitor, joined Ince & Co, and was made a partner in 1986.
