Olivier Clevenbergh is mainly active in the field of M&A and corporate law. He deals with national and international acquisitions and disposals of shares or assets, private equity and venture capital transactions, mergers and joint ventures. He has considerable experience as regards restructurings and the acquisition of the assets of distressed companies.

He has also specific expertise in commercial law, more in particular in the field of retail and distribution law and is an acknowledged specialist in franchising.

Olivier Clevenbergh combines his transactional practice with a contentious practice covering the same areas. He therefore also represents clients in commercial and corporate litigation before the Belgian courts and arbitration tribunals.


Before becoming a founding partner of Strelia in January 2013, Olivier Clevenbergh was a partner at Stibbe from 2000, heading the Corporate & Finance team. In addition to his client activities, Olivier was Managing Partner of Stibbe Brussels from 1 January 2005 until 30 June 2011. He was the Secretary General of the Alliance between Herbert Smith, Gleiss Lutz and Stibbe until 31 December 2011.

The department is frequently instructed on domestic and cross-border corporate and M&A deals. Practice head Olivier Clevenbergh led a team that assisted Natixis with its public takeover of a controlling stake in Dalenys. The group is also acting for new client Burger Brands Belgium on its expansion in Belgium. Other key names to note include Gisèle Rosselle and Laurent Verhavert.

'Very pragmatic' firm Strelia is well known for handling corporate litigation and insolvency disputes; for example, department head Jean-Pierre Fierens is representing directors of Optima Bank in claims for damages following the bank's bankruptcy. Strelia has significant experience assisting retail sector clients with setting up and developing operations in Belgium. It acts for Carrefour on its Belgian franchise activities and advises the same client on various commercial contracts. The group is also assisting with Burger King's expansion in Belgium. Olivier Clevenbergh and Jean-Pierre Fierens are key names to note. Veritas and Point Carré are also clients.
