We are proud of the diverse array of skills and abilities we already have within Ashurst. Through our diversity and inclusion strategy, we have dedicated action plans focussing on gender, LGBTI, Disability and Resilience and Multiculturalism in particular, while having regard to the broadest concept of diversity in general.

Robust action plans - including gender targets – are key to engaging, developing and retaining our best people – and to ensure we hold ourselves accountable to developing an inclusive workplace.
Our gender targets are that, by 2018:

  • at least 40% of our new partners every year will be women;
  • at least 25% of our senior management roles will be held by women; and
  • at least 25% of equity partners should be women.

Pro bono

Ashurst take seriously the responsibility to ensure that everyone has access to legal advice and representation regardless of means. The most effective contribution we can make is to use our knowledge and expertise to assist people and community organisations through the provision of legal services.

Through our pro bono work we can make a person's human rights mean something. We can contribute to the not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises that provide support and dignity to people in need. We can bring about positive change for people who are disadvantaged.

We work closely with community-based legal and charitable organisations to understand the needs of our clients and to identify clients who are most likely to benefit from our services.

Pro bono at Ashurst is a stand-alone legal practice. It is grounded in the ethics of professional responsibility and the practice allows our lawyers to fulfil this obligation and give back to the community.

Our Board has set pro bono targets, including an hours target of 52 hours per lawyer per year.

Ashurst is committed to creating a world leading pro bono practice and aims to do this by developing leading local pro bono programmes in each office and by developing cross-border pro bono projects which enable our offices to work together to tackle global and regional social justice issues.
