Paula is a Partner and Head of the Employment Law Team at Howes Percival.  She has extensive experience in all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non-contentious. She provides commercial and practical advice to a wide range of businesses and adopts a can do approach to ensuring that clients achieve their strategic aims.  Paula has developed particular expertise in outsourcing, TUPE and redundancies and restructuring projects. Paula regularly presents seminars and provides in-house training on employment law issues. Paula is a member of the Employers Lawyers Association.

Howes Percival LLP’s team handles a range of matters, from redundancy, restructuring and TUPE processes to multi-party claims and discrimination disputes. Restrictive covenant enforcement and the negotiation and management of senior executive exits are other areas of focus. The group's clients primarily consist of private sector companies, although it is also adept at advising public sector clients. Practice head Paula Bailey, Graham Irons and director Alex Payton form the heart of the practice, with associate Hannah Pryce providing key support. In recent work, the department assisted Marston’s with TUPE issues related to the client’s acquisition of Charles Wells’ brewery, beer brands, canning and bottling plant, and warehouse facilities. Another highlight was defending Integrated Doorset Solutions in tribunal proceedings regarding TUPE claims brought by over 150 claimants in the context of the acquisition of a number of assets from an administrator. The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Mercedes-Benz and Weatherbys are also clients.

The practice acts for a number of household-name brands (including Mercedes-Benz), as well as senior executives, for which it handles complex tribunal claims and severance issues. Recent highlights include advising Welcome Break on warranties, indemnities and TUPE issues related to its acquisition of two Starbucks franchises, and acted for the shareholders of Woodway Packaging on the employment aspects of its acquisition by international distribution and outsourcing group, Bunzl, which involved advising the directors on the terms of their new service agreements. Paula Bailey heads the team in Milton Keynes, which includes Simon DeMaid, who 'always understands clients' needs, explains the risks behind each decision and does everything in his power to mitigate those risks'.
