Career

Joined Garrigues in 2006. Between 1982 and 1989, a lawyer in the SONAE Group, responsible for a large number of company purchase transactions, mergers, spin-offs and internal restructuring operations, during the intense stage of creating the said Group. In 1988, a founding partner of BL&C, Auditores e Consultores, Lda., an audit and consultancy firm associated with the French audit and consultancy firm Guerard Viala, and responsible for the tax department, from the foundation thereof up to 2005. Between 1995 and 2005, after Guerard Viala and Mazars merged, he was an international partner at Mazars & Guerard. In 1994 he founded the law firm Castro Silva & Associados, Sociedade de Advogados. Member of the Commission for Tax Reform, appointed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (1999-2001); member of the work group for evaluating tax benefits, appointed by the Ministry of Finance (2005).

Member of the Portuguese Law Society, and has been awarded the title of Tax Law Specialist; member of the Portuguese Law Society Tax Law specialty recognition jury; former member of the Portuguese Law Society Company Lawyers Management Institute. Education

Law Graduate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon. Law post graduate from the Faculty of Law at the Portuguese Catholic University.

  • CHANGES IN THE REGIME GOVERNING RESTRICTIONS ON VOTING RIGHTS AT SPANISH LISTED COMPANIES

    On June 17, 2010, following a rough and eventful passage through Parliament, the Lower House of the Spanish Parliament finally approved a transcendental amendment to the Spanish Corporations Law (to article 105.2) affecting only listed corporations: a prohibition on voting ceilings for a same shareholder (or companies in the same group), regardless of the number of shares they own.
