Position
Partner and head of the healthcare practice, Allan specialises in health service law and advisory work for NHS bodies. He is a regular attendee and legal advisor at NHS board meetings and is often involved in acting on behalf of the National Health Service in judicial review, human rights and with regard to governance issues. He also acts for many English and Welsh NHS bodies in regard to their regulatory role in respect of independent contractors such as doctors/dentists as well as on behalf of CSCI with regard to their regulatory role over care homes. Allan was the national co-ordinator of Health Authority defendants in successfully defending the NHS in the Benzodiazepine class action and acted for Alder Hey Hospital in the Royal Liverpool Children’s Inquiry (‘Redfern Inquiry’) into organ retention and in the subsequent Royal Liverpool Children’s Group Litigation which was successfully mediated. Currently he is acting for one of the NUS bodies involved in the Mid-Staffordshire Hospital public inquiry.
