31 Jul 2008 - Miranda has been awarded the National Environmental Award for 2008 by decision of the Portuguese Federation of Environmental Protection Associations (CPADA – “Confederação Portuguesa das Associações de Defesa do Ambiente”). The award cerimony took place on 28 July at the Mãe D’Água das Amoreiras, a former water reservoir and a Lisbon landmark site.

17 Nov 2008 - Miranda held a Workshop on the new Labor Code at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel on 29 October. Miranda Associates João Santos, Paula Dutschmann, Joana Neves and Cláudia Santos addressed an audience of HR directors and heads of legal departments from both local and foreign companies. The speakers at this event presented a general overview on the proposed changes that will come into force in 2009, as well as on the new ways of hiring and new types of work contracts, adaptability in labor relationships, schedule flexibility, working hours and workload management. The presentation closed with the discussion of the changes on disciplinary proceedings and termination of work contracts.

MIRANDA Funds Chair at the Portuguese Catholic University

The Portuguese Catholic University Law School (Lisbon campus), the most internationally oriented Portuguese Law School, and the law firm Miranda are pleased to announce the creation of the Miranda Chair on Transnational Finance Law. The Chair, the first to be funded by a private organization in Portugal, will be held by Prof. Jan Dalhuisen, an internationally renowned scholar, lecturing in London (King's College) and Berkeley. With the creation of this Chair, Prof. Dalhuisen will be a residing Professor lecturing on the post graduate international program of the Catholic University.
