Career

Klaus studied law in Muenster, completing his legal training in Kiel, Hamburg and London, focusing on maritime and transport law, marine insurance and international contracts for the supply of goods and services. Traineeships with a London law firm and a leading German liner shipping company followed before admission to the Hamburg Bar in 1994. Klaus has been practicing as a maritime lawyer and partner in the Maritime and Transport Law Department of Taylor Wessing before joining Fleet Hamburg as a founding member in 2011.

Klaus is a member of the German Association for Transport Law (DGfTR), the German Association for International Maritime Law (DVIS), the Association of Hamburg Jurists (GHJ), the London Maritime Arbitration Association (LMAA) and the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA).

Klaus studied law in Muenster, Kiel and Hamburg. Qualifications: Klaus Kostka is admitted as Rechtsanwalt.
He is specialised in the law relating to the carriage of goods by sea and insurance of marine risks. Klaus regularly advises and represents a number of German and international shipping companies as well as marine underwriters in the “dry” and “wet” sectors. He has been involved in some large-scale litigations and arbitrations under Charterparties as well as in several "Disaster Cases" (losses of ships, aeroplane crash) and international mergers & acquisitions in respect of which aspects of maritime or insurance law have become crucial.
