Position

Partner leading the energy and environmental groups of the Firm. Iliya is one of the top energy experts in Bulgaria with close specialization in electricity issues. He has extensive experience advising on transactions in both renewable and conventional energy, with particular focus on wind power projects and grid balancing issues. Iliya is actively participating in the discussions on the energy reform in Bulgaria since 2012 and continues to contribute to promotion of security for international investors. Iliya is an expert in energy litigation on both commercial and administrative issues and particularly protection of foreign investments in Bulgaria with focus on ECT and ICSID claims, national and ICC disputes in the energy sector. He also has years of experience in electricity supply and trading focusing on complex technical issues. Along with the energy team of DRP, Iliya has created and successfully implemented innovative supply structures in shopping malls and office buildings, that have been adopted as market standard in Bulgaria. He is a recognized expert on grid balancing issues and particularly integration of renewable energy producers in the balancing market. Along with complex technical issues, Iliya is also an expert in all energy-related transactions including acquisitions, PPA, grid contracts, M&A transactions in the energy sector, project financing and construction of energy projects etc. His environmental experience includes compliance and implementation of environmental clearance for energy and mining projects, defense of clients in environmental disputes in both mining and energy issues including cross-border effect of investments in Bulgaria.

Career

Prior to joining Dinova, Rusev & Partners, Iliya completed a clerkship at the Administrative Division of Sofia City Court and worked as a freelance legal counsel. He currently teaches the law paper for the ACCA exams and Corporate Finance with BPP Professional education in SEE.

Georgi Vladov¬†advised an international private equity fund on the sale of one of the largest shopping centres in Sofia for ‚ā¨156m.

The team acted for Eko Bulgaria in proceedings before the Bulgarian competition authority regarding a possible cartel in the motor fuel retail sector, where the client faced a fine of ‚ā¨30m.
