Career

Monica Colombera is the head of energy project and infrastructure group which counts 22 fee earners. She regularly assists lenders and sponsors in financing major transactions and in the structuring of projects. She also assists domestic and foreign investors in M&A transactions, joint-ventures, development projects and secondary market deals both in the infrastructure and energy sector (oil and gas, photovoltaic, wind, hydro energy).
Monica is widely recognized not only for her technical and legal capabilities but also for her deep understanding of the market dynamics. She is regularly involved in assisting institutions and stakeholders with respect to legislative reforms, contractual standardisations and issues of general interest in the relevant market.

Other areas of strength are syndicated loans, debt restructurings and securities' lending transactions. The banking law group is co-ordinated by Andrea Giannelli and the energy, project and infrastructure department is co-ordinated by Monica Colombera and Filippo Ruffato. Key practice areas include corporate and M&A and banking and finance. Practice head¬†Monica Colombera¬†led the team, which assisted a consortium of lenders, including UniCredit and European Investment Bank, with the circa ‚ā¨442m financing of the Italy-France interconnector. The group also acted for a consortium of banks on the realisation and operation of a¬†‚ā¨133m biomass power plant.¬†Cristina Martorana, an expert in Italian and European administrative law,¬†joined from¬†Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe¬†in January 2019; her practice is focused on the energy sector.
