Position

Head of corporate finance advising individuals and corporate clients in all aspects of mergers, acquisitions, funding and corporate structuring. Helen leads transactions ranging from share and asset acquisitions and disposals, management buy-outs and buy-ins, investment, joint venture and shareholder agreements to private equity transactions and bank funding and refinancing. She offers expert advice supporting entrepreneurs and owner managers to plan their exits, make investments or start a new business, and regularly assists both banks and borrowers on matters including secured lending, unsecured lending, acquisition finance and intercreditor matters. Helen is a key member of the firm's travel team acting for ABTA, the TTA and TUI Travel plc and is also a member of the aviation team, with experience including funding the purchase and sale of various aircraft.

Career

Trained asb law; qualified 2000; associate 2002; partner 2005 to date; head of corporate 2012. Joined the firm’s executive board as an elected partner in May 2016.

Member

A member of the Institute of Travel and Tourism and an elected member to the ABTA Travel Industry Partner steering committee, Helen is regularly asked to share her views and speak on issues affecting travel businesses.

Croydon High School; Brunel University (1996 BSc Hons politics and modern history 2(1)); College of Law, London (1998 LPC Commendation; 1997 CPE Commendation).

The team acted for Highway Care on a major restructuring of its shareholding by way of the creation of new classes of shares. In other work, it advised Seventeen Group on its acquisition of Westscott Insurance Brokers. Claire Williams and associate Nikki Ashfield focus on corporate finance and senior consultant Russell Bell handles commercial and corporate matters; the trio are 'approachable and know what they’re doing'. Debbie Venn focuses on commercial matters. Andrew Hoad joined PDT Solicitors in January 2018.

Clients single out practice head Claire Williams and consultant Shaun Kelly as 'professional, knowledgeable, totally focused on ensuring the best outcome for their clients, and very keen to work closely with banks to present a team-based approach for the client'. Williams leads a team that acts for a number of major lenders, including HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest and Handelsbanken, on secured lending and acquisition finance mandates, as well as for corporates in refinancing transactions and private equity firms on acquisition financings. Recent highlights include acting for Seventeen Group on a refinancing with Clydesdale Bank to facilitate its acquisitions within the insurance sector; acting for the lender on acquisition financing provided to an insurance broker; and advising Lloyds Banking Group on a property loan and development loan to an investor and developer. Also recommended are property finance specialists Nigel Wigin and Chris Worthington, head of corporate finance Helen Mead , and Daniel Tozer.  Andrew Hoad left in December 2017 to join PDT Solicitors.
