The firm

In 1996, after many years working together in a Franco-Canadian law firm in Paris, Enrico Castaldi and Alexis Mourre established Castaldi Mourre & Partners. In 2015, Alexis Mourre became the president of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce and left the partnership; today the firm continues as CastaldiPartners. For the last 20 years men and women of different nationalities, cultures and professional backgrounds have come together to create synergies and teams that ensure that at all times the firm is able to offer its clients the best and most appropriate legal advice and protection. In the years that have passed since the creation of the firm, the firm’s lawyers have assisted many businesses of different nationalities, sectors of activity and size to fully develop and exploit their commercial potential. CastaldiPartners’ lawyers are all multilingual and many are qualified to practise in more than one jurisdiction.

Areas of practice

The firm’s eight principal areas of activity (listed above) have been developed as a result of increasing external demand for specialised lawyers and, at the same time, a desire not to completely divorce itself from everyday legal practice. Thanks to its ability to deploy interdisciplinary teams, the firm is able to bring together a wealth of experience gained over many years in different economic, commercial and cultural environments. The firm is always seeking to rationalise its activity according to: the specific needs of the client; the commercial and economic context in which the client operates; and the optimisation of the legal costs and fees incurred by its clients. The primary objective is to provide legal advice in a way that creates added value for its clients.

The firm has a unique focus on Franco-Italian business and commercial relationships. Since its creation the firm has concentrated on assisting Italian clients in France and French clients in Italy, especially on cross-border deals (M&A, joint ventures, corporate reorganisations, real estate transactions, etc), contentious matters and day-to-day advisory services. It is regarded as the leader in the field and has been recognised as such by both the business and legal community.

In the summer of 2016, the firm signed a strategic alliance with Buckles Solicitors LLP, an English law firm with offices throughout England. Together with Buckles, it has opened a London office and is now able to service the English law needs of its clients both in France, Italy, England and Wales.

The firm’s newly opened Brussels office concentrates on EU competition law and regulatory issues. It also has a highly respected litigation practice whose professionals have a long-standing track record of appearing before the European courts and regulatory authorities.

Its Lyon office provides the firm with a base in the heart of the Rhone-Alpes region of France as well as a base from which to assist the vast array of businesses operating in the region and across the border into Italy. It is a vital part of the Franco-Italian practice.

The international arbitration practice has assisted clients in a wide range of significant arbitration proceedings, including those regulated by national and international institutions such as the ICC (in Paris), CAM (in Milan) and the LCIA (in London) and many others and on ad-hoc arbitration cases.

The retail team acts for many of Europe’s leading retailers (including fashion houses and furniture manufacturers), assisting them in all aspects of their business from the acquisition of store locations, employment issues, labelling and the terms and conditions on which they operate.

CastaldiPartners’ services are geared to the needs of its clients. The firm’s client base ranges from large multinationals through to medium-sized enterprises. It is predominantly a business and industry-focused practice with clients operating in sectors ranging from the energy industry and natural resources industry through the automotive and transportation sectors to food and retail.

The firm takes pride in its international approach. Throughout the life of the firm a significant proportion of its clients have been businesses working in jurisdictions that are not their home ones. This has allowed the firm to develop expertise in assisting clients in not only undertaking the immediate legal steps that they are faced with, but also of putting the issues into a context that the client can easily understand and to anticipate their needs.
