Position

Isobell was promoted to Partner in 2017. She works in the firm’s litigation Dispute Resolution team specialising in property disputes, covering construction (both contentious and non-contentious), planning and contract, although she maintains a broad commercial litigation practice. She has over 12 years’ experience of the Court of Session and Sheriff Courts as well as representing clients before the Lands Tribunal For Scotland and the Scottish Land Court, in arbitrations, adjudications and other hearings and inquiries such as planning appeals.

She obtained the LLM in Construction Law from the University of Strathclyde in 2007.

Gillespie Macandrew LLP's team has had an upswing in commercial property activity.. The housebuilding side of the practice has gained momentum, with the firm adding to its client roster names such as Robertson Partnership Homes, Merchant Homes and Turnberry Homes. Harry Smith, who heads up a dedicated housebuilder team, recently worked with senior solicitor Andrew Leslie and Isobell Reid to advise Bellway Homes on the £10m+ acquisition of a development site at Bishopton in Renfrewshire. They also acted for Avant Homes (Scotland) Limited in the £9.5m acquisition of a development site at Shott Farm in High Blantyre. Commercial development work is another area of strength; clients include Newland Assets, Worthington Property Maintenance and Midtown Capital. Elsewhere, there has been a notable uptick in real estate finance mandates, with the firm generating work from UK and international banks, and alternative lenders; Kenneth Irons, Greg Peebles and others recently acted for Assetz SME Capital in a number of loan finance transactions. Another pillar of the practice is in investment transactions, which span sub-sectors such as retail, office and industrial. David Milne heads up the commercial property team.

Construction

At Gillespie Macandrew LLP, residential development is one of the bedrocks of the firm's construction work. Harry Smith, who heads up a dedicated housebuilder team, has more than 30 years of experience of residential development. The firm is on the legal panels of major housebuilders such as Bellway Homes, Taylor Wimpey, CALA Management and Avant Homes (Scotland) Limited. It also acts for a number of large estates that have development companies, which construct new housing developments and renewable energy projects. The firm also plays an active role in building restoration projects, and also represents private individuals in construction disputes related to them. Smith works with Isobell Reid, who made partner in 2017, and is 'thoroughly professional in dealings with clients, experts and counsel'. Robertson Partnership Homes Limited, Turnberry Homes Limited and Merchant Homes Partnerships Limited are recent client wins. Murray Shaw has retired.

Gillespie Macandrew LLP's planning team is going from strength to strength, following the promotion to partner of Isobell Reid. In addition, Colin Hamilton also made partner, and then became the head of the practice. Active in both contentious and non-contentious matters, the firm's core focus is in its work for landowners, housebuilders, developers, market participants in the energy industry and public sector entities. Hamilton, solicitor advocate John Stirling and Fiona Cameron recently acted for Seagreen Wind Energy in a high-profile judicial review challenge brought by the RSPB over the development of the Forth and Tay offshore wind farms. In another matter, Cameron and Hamilton advised No Kingsford Stadium Limited on a potential judicial review of the decision to grant planning consent for Aberdeen FC's new stadium, which is to be built on greenbelt land.

Led by Fiona Cameron, its team provides advice on the full range of issues, such as tenancy disputes, nuisance, boundaries, encroachment and dilapidations. It also handles contentious issues arising from strategic development projects, including residential developments and renewable energy projects. Colin Hamilton and solicitor advocate John Stirling represented Seagreen Wind Energy Limited in RSPB's judicial review challenge of the Forth and Tay offshore wind farms combined consent. Isobell Reid is another notable individual in the team.
