AstapovLawyers, the NYSBA and the UBA held a joint seminar on New York law

AstapovLawyers International Law Group, the NYSBA and the UBA held a joint seminar on New York law in international transactions & dispute resolutions. The event took place in Radisson Blu Kiev Podil on 18 April 2013. 

The first panel dedicated to New York law in international transactions consisted of reports by Arthur Kozyra, an Attorney at Seward & Kissel LLP (New York), and AstapovLawyers Partner Oleh Malskyy.

Mr Kozyra spoke about accessing the U.S. capital markets by foreign companies through public and private offerings. He focused his attention on primary capital markets securities, ADR programs, initial public offering process and listings on the New York Stock Exchange. He also gave an overview of global IPO markets and other matters of interest. Oleh Malskyy concentrated on New York law for transaction for Eastern European matters.

During the second panel the contributors expanded on a topic of New York law in dispute resolutions with Serhiy Hoshovsky, a Managing Partner of Hoshovsky Law Firm (New York), Daniel Rothstein, an Attorney at Law Office of Daniel J. Rothstein, P.C. (New York), and AstapovLawyers Partner Oleh Beketov as reporters.

Mr Hoshovsky spoke about New York courts and international dispute resolutions, specifically, on attachment, injunction and other provisional remedies, as well as on discovery in aid of foreign proceedings. Mr Rothstein reported on international arbitration in New York, including resources for international arbitration in New York and the intersection between international arbitration and U.S. and New York law. AstapovLawyers Partner Oleh Beketov spoke about service of judicial documents and taking of evidence in international disputes, focusing on the practical aspects of procedural matters, participation of the representatives in legal proceedings in Ukraine related to fulfillment of the request to serve judicial documents. He also examined the available procedures of obtaining evidence in Ukraine, fulfillment of the request to obtain evidence, reimbursement for additional expenses.

The event became a focus of increased attention for peer legal practitioners whose professional activity is directly connected with transactional law and dispute resolutions.
