Oleh Beketov spoke at the III International Law Conference

Oleh Beketov, AstapovLawyers’ Counsel, spoke at the III International Law Conference “Companies with foreign investments.

Effective dispute resolution”organized by Capital Business Events in association with the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Commerce and Industry Chamber of Russian Federation, The Anglo Russian Law Association and Chartered Institute of arbitrators. The event took place in Moscow, Russia on 26-27 May 2011.

Among the delegates, who took part in the conference, were heads of corporate legal departments, practicing lawyers and representatives of consulting firms from Russia, Sweden, UK and Kazakhstan.

The agenda of the conference included the discussion of the following issues:
• Commercial foreign capital in the UK, CIS and Sweden;
• Financial institutions;
• National and international standards of foreign investment protection;
• Disputes vs the state. Investment arbitration;
• Corporate disputes with foreign owners;
• Mediation as an out-of-court dispute resolution method.

Oleh Beketov spoke about the pitfalls in the M&A transactions. He paid precise attention to discussing typical errors that buyers and sellers make in M&A transactions both in the CIS countries and in the UK. He also talked about the possible ways of dispute resolution and what to do in order to avoid such mistakes in the future.
