On June 10, 2010 AstapovLawyers' Senior Associate Mr. Eugene Blinov traditionally attended the official gathering of international grain community - Annual GAFTA Dinner 2010 held in London, UK.

The traditional Annual GAFTA Dinner gathered the most prominent representatives of grain and oils trading companies, agricultural brokers, major international banks, law firms, arbitrators, insurance and surveyor companies and other professionals engaged in the trade. The event despite being held in a relaxing atmosphere raised numerous issues of strengthening the cooperation between the players in the market and tackling of current problems observed in international grain trade.

This year's dinner was held in the Grand Ballroom of the London Hilton Hotel. The evening began with a Welcome Reception which allowed the GAFTA President, Mr. Roberto Rocco and GAFTA Officers, Mr. Alexei Gavrilov and Mr. Patrick Savage to meet and greet the attending guests. Following the reception, guests were called and guided into dinner by our official Toastmasters and waited the arrival of the GAFTA President. Roberto then provided the guests with a very warm welcome and dinner commenced. Once dinner had been served, several speeches were given, including by the former MP Mr. Matthew Parris who was the guest speaker. As a result the Dinner provided guests with an ideal opportunity to unwind and network.

AstapovLawyers is an undisputed leader in providing legal services for the grain community and it is also the only law firm in Ukraine who has chosen agriculture to be its principal area of expertise. We actively participate in the work of Arbitration Committee and Contract Committee of GAFTA. Annually we handle several hundred pre-arbitration and arbitration cases in GAFTA, FOSFA and other commodity arbitration forums. With offices in Ukraine, Russian Federation and Kazakhstan we are constantly on the edge of the developments in the sector.

As said Mr. Vadim Onoyko from RIAS Trading SA, the largest grain exporter in Russian Federation: "AstapovLawyers is simply the best in GAFTA disputes. They brought us comfort in handling international sales and helped us become a leader".

  • How much does it cost to use ‚Äúproprietary‚ÄĚ TM?

For many international companies, it is a common practice to allow the use of their trademarks (TM) to all group companies on a free of charge basis. Some parent companies do not even have a right to charge the royalty payments from their subsidiaries, as this contradicts the company’s policy. In the case of subsidiaries located in the territory of Ukraine, such a situation suits everyone, at first glance, because royalties do not have to be paid at all.
