Interviews
Leor Nouman, Partner
What do you see as the main advantages that differentiate S. Horowitz & Co.
Our? Tax practice is highly diverse and covers aspect of corporate, partnership and individual taxation in Israel. Our intimate grasp of all the elements of international and domestic taxation assists our clients in structuring their transactions accordingly, and in the most effective way as possible. We handle a large volume of sophisticated, complex and strategically important tax issues for clients with business affairs in Israel. The profound depth of experience across the full breadth of tax law has come from being instructed on top-level transactions and has fuelled our team with the knowledge to overcome hurdles and adapt and tailor previous successful outcomes to any situation.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
The political situation in Israel at the moment is less clear, and this may also affect the business activity in Israel. I expect that the practices of mergers and restructuring, bankruptcies, taxation, employment law and litigation will continue to be busy in the coming year. While there is no doubt that the economic waters have been muddied by political uncertainty, we are seeing a continued interest in the wide range of high-tech sectors, and the other points mentioned above still hold true.
What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?
I think in this day and age with the technological advances and law firm mergers, both domestically and internationally, we are resharpening our strong focus on client service, ensuring personal and hands-on connections, continuity, and thinking of our clients’ journey, spending more time on bringing together our wider network into their world.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Yes, technology always affects our work. For example, zoom video communications have eliminated in recent years the need to meet physically with most of our clients, and also facilitate communication with non-resident consultants and clients. These days we are beginning to feel the innovations of artificial intelligence, that will probably change our work in the near future. In addition to the vast range of legal tech and automation available, we are monitoring closely with the potential use, advantages and pitfalls of AI and how and where it could be useful.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
Draw up list of possible collaboration partners; introduce to our network abroad; find them key events to attend where key investors are; send client updates and content from industry posts on LinkedIn.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
As one of the most seasoned law firms in the market, over 100 years and counting, our firm is well positioned to help firm ride volatile cycles, having seen many over the decades. While our tax practice is growing to add more resources, it has instant access to some of the most qualified attorney around in other departments to ensure stability and a comprehensive service. We have a relentlessly driven management who not only watch the market but help to shape it.
