Position

Having begun his career with the Crown Prosecution Service, Mike entered private practice in 1995 and has defended individuals and businesses against a full range of enforcement bodies since. Mike regularly appears in the criminal courts and has extensive experience of grave offences (murder, manslaughter, sexual and complex crime). He also conducts cases brought in accordance with health and safety, trademarks and media protection legislation as well as having expertise in road transport and motoring law (in respect of which he undertakes both defence and prosecution work). Mike also utilises his advocacy ability before licensing committees.

Career

Trained Woodfines 2004-08; qualified 2008; partner 2012. Paralegal assistant in the firm’s crime team since 2002. From 1990-94 he worked principally in the Crown Courts for the CPS, before becoming a trained police station arrest advisor and paralegal for a large multi-discipline firm in Oxfordshire, and then moving to practice in Buckinghamshire from 1997.

Leisure

When not enjoying time spent with his two children, Mike enjoys Formula One and following Oxford United.

Woodfines LLP  has a broad practice that includes defending health and safety and environmental offences as well as broader criminal matters and fraud. It workload includes cases ranging from historic sexual assaults and conspiracy to import prohibited firearms and ammunition to a VAT fraud and serious health and safety offences. Mike Hayward heads the team and is supported by Michelle O’Garro, who has a focus on fraud and regulatory offences, Nathan Taylor-Allkins and Jane Anderson.
