The firm

The origins of M&A – A. M. Moura, Albergaria Silva & Associados – Sociedade de Advogados RL, formerly known as AMM, date back to 1990 when its founders established, together with other colleagues, a practice concentrating on assisting foreign investors, integrated in the international network ‘Correspondent Law Firms of Price Waterhouse’.

In the late 1990s, the same team of lawyers joined Landwell, a network of law firms integrated on a worldwide basis through the umbrella of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Presently, using the same skills, M&A serves its clients on a full independent basis and co-operates with international law firms, thus being able to provide legal services worldwide.

M&A co-operates with its clients in a practical, effective and efficient way. Projects are assigned to the lawyers best qualified to deliver optimal results. The firm applies the ‘four eyes review’ principle to ensure the highest technical quality and that cases and transactions are managed efficiently.

M&A presently has a team of 24 professionals, including two partners and 14 associates, with comprehensive legal knowledge and extensive experience in international transactions.

M&A places great emphasis on the spirit of partnership and the capacity of working together as a group. It requests a particular effort from its personnel to develop the skill of understanding the needs of its clients and to have the best possible relations with the same, by always behaving in a positive way. Technical knowledge and constant professional improvement are considered as essential in order to offer high-quality services to the firm’s clients.

That is why ‘the success of those we assist is our motivation’ is M&A’s motto.

Areas of practice

M&A is recognised for its ability to co-operate with clients in a global, skilful, specialised and personalised way.

M&A’s practice concentrates on areas where clients increasingly require the specialised support of a law firm, in decision-making, in the implementation of their strategies and investments, and in solving their problems. In particular, these areas include: corporate, mergers and acquisitions; EU and competition; foreign investment and international contracts; tax; labour; construction and tourism; public procurement; environment; insurance; telecommunications; pharmaceutical; financial and capital markets; and information technology.

The firm attaches particular importance to its practice groups. In complex projects, it forms teams comprising colleagues from each of the legal fields involved.

Specialisation has to be lived and breathed. Therefore, M&A is structured to motivate the teamwork to ensure that it provides outstanding advice.
