The firm

Advokatfirma Ræder is a commercial law firm located in central Oslo. Since 1949 the firm has advised companies, organisations and public authorities, both nationally and internationally, on all aspects of commercial law. Ræder has the qualities and provides the services of a large firm with the personal touch of a smaller firm. The firm works closely with clients and provides customised interdisciplinary advice based on solid legal expertise and a sound business understanding.

Areas of practice

To be able to deliver the legal advice that clients need to achieve a commercial advantage, the firm’s lawyers are organised into industry and practice areas. Ræder’s areas of practice include:

Banking and finance: Ræder advises on financial transactions (acquisition and project financing, financing of ships, real estate, aircraft, bond financing and lease financing). It also advises on all stages of loan transactions. Regulatory frameworks for finance institutions, licensing issues and compliance services are also strong practice areas in the firm.

Construction: Ræder advises private and public property developers and contractors on all construction matters – from large, complex, to small less complicated projects.

Corporate, M&A and capital markets: Ræder is a legal and strategic advisor on a broad range of transactions within M&A and corporate finance. Ræder is regularly involved in stock exchange transactions (including listings), and when listed companies issue shares in addition to other securities issues. It also advises issuers of shares, investors and market players on stock exchange rules and regulatory matters. Ræder’s practice has a strong international element. Transactions often cross national borders and several lawyers have acquired much of their expertise overseas.

Employment: Ræder assists employers with all aspects of employment and labour law. The practice advises on ‘daily’ personnel issues, provides assistance in individual employment disputes, negotiation and litigation. Reorganisations and downsizings, transfer of undertakings, breach of non-compete clauses, ex-pat contracts and pension issues are also handled.

Intellectual property: Ræder’s practice advises on a wide range of IPR and commercial-related matters. The practice is specialised in IPR litigation, copyright, marketing, trade mark, design, contract and entertainment law. The practice also manages trade marks and design portfolios for multiple national and foreign clients, including registrations and litigation before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office. Prosecution on both a domestic and international level is also a strong field.

Real estate/commercial property: Ræder’s commercial real estate practice advises on all aspects of commercial property law. The practice has a transaction/commercial lease group, a construction law group and a real estate development group which deals with administrative planning law. The practice is one of the largest real estate groups in Norway, and assists both Norwegian and international clients in real estate transactions in connection with lease agreements and operation/management of real estate.

Restructuring and insolvency: Ræder’s practice has some of the country’s most experienced and highly skilled advisers in legal processes related to bankruptcy. It is considered one of Norway’s most experienced practices in the field.

Marine – shipping and insurance: Ræder is one of the leading maritime firms in Norway and the market leader in cargo-related matters. The practice has extensive expertise handling recovery claims, recourse actions and general maritime and insurance cases. The practice also has extensive experience in maritime litigation and dispute resolution. Legal advice on sale and purchase, sale leasebacks, financing of vessels, newbuilding, construction and conversion contracts, registration and delivery of vessels and charter parties are also strong practice areas.

Tax.Ræders experienced tax group assists businesses, organisations and individuals on national and international tax matters. The tax services comprise tax planning and compliance, and assistance on tax audits and disputes, within areas such as transactions and business restructuring, current business tax issues, generation changes, EEA issues, transfer pricing, permanent establishment and moving of tax residency. The department also advises on direct taxes.

The firm covers all areas of commercial law, and in addition to the above also has a strong competition law practice.
