Position
Director. Hugh specialises in property law generally, including commercial property and mortgage finance schemes and security, notarial bonds, as well as the drafting of standard property finance and real security documentation. He has advised major banks with regard to both commercial and residential mortgage lending schemes, including the development of new loan products and facilities, the statutory regulation of money lending and the Usury Act, 1973. His expertise extends to institutional property and security based audits, inter-bank and institutional property and security-based transactions, including the transfer and cession of mortgage loan books pursuant to section 54 of the Banks Act, 1990. Hugh has advised with regard to the real security aspects of high yield Eurobond financing structures and attended to the registered securities in respect thereof. He is well-versed in the negotiation, structuring and drafting of specialist property and property-related agreements and advice as well as all aspects of conveyancing and notarial requirements.
Career
Served as an articled clerk at Williams, Gaisford & Steyn in 1973, and qualified in 1975. Joined Cliffe Dekker as a Director in 1980.
