Career

Chairman of Employment Tribunals (England & Wales) since 1984 Joined Salans in 1989 Admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 1972 He works in all areas of employment law, providing strategic, tactical and commercial advice, using his considerable experience and knowledge aided by his being a Chairman of Employment Tribunals since 1984. Barry also has experience of company and partnership law which can often be useful. He has acted in many important cases, including a recent whistle-blowing claim and collective redundancy and various discrimination cases. He became chair of the Discrimination and Gender Equality Committee of the International Bar Association in January 2007, which further assists his discrimination practice and provides international connections.

Member

Barry is a founder member of the Employment Lawyers Association Management Committee, Member of the Law Society's Employment Law Committee and the Members Advisory Group for the Employers Forum on Age. He wrote the report for the Law Society's Employment Law Committee recommending age discrimination legislation and contributed to its report recommending disability discrimination legislation. He regularly writes articles and speaks at conferences and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and of the institute of Continuing Professional Education. He co-wrote the original Butterworths Employment Law Guide, which is now in its fifth edition and which he still co-writes.

  • Changes in the Waste Management System

    The amendments adopted by the Parliament on July 1, 2011 to the Municipal Cleanliness and Tidiness Act bring revolutionary changes to the Polish waste management system. The Act is currently awaiting signing by the President. Once approved, the changes will become effective 12 months from the date the Act is published.
