Salans Europe LLP’s banking and finance team now fields 11 fee earners after acquisition finance expert Jan Procházka rejoined the firm as counsel following a stint at Clifford Chance and associate Juraj Alexander rejoined the Prague team from New York. Practice head Olga Humlová focuses on real estate-related financing, including advising Raiffeisenbank on residential projects and Czech bank KB on financing infrastructure developments in Azerbaijan. Counsel Jirí Stržínek handled domestic and cross-border financings for clients such as Unicredit and Continental.

Its recent focus has been on mid-market deals including restructuring for international companies across financial, retail, food, automotive, and other industry sectors. Tomáš Bílek offers ‘technical skills, business acumen, customer focus and perspective’. He co-heads the practice with counsel Jan Procházka, who joined from Clifford Chance in July 2010. Salans Europe LLP’s experienced group focuses on international arbitration encompassing IP, commercial and regulatory issues, and also undertakes domestic litigation. Following Alena Banyaiová’s departure to join Bányaiová Vožehová, s.r.o., advokátní kancelár, Olga Humlová now leads the practice across the Prague and Bratislava offices, with support from managing partner Ladislav Štorek. Humlová represented clients on bankruptcy and real estate-related disputes, while Štorek successfully represented Technoexport in arbitration over a payment claim. The team is also acting for Skoda Transportation in a co-manufacturing royalties and contract dispute with a US company.

Real estate and construction

Within Real estate and construction, Salans is a first tier firm,

Salans Europe LLP’s broad experience in local and cross-border real estate transactions encompasses advice to investors, developers and lenders, as well as leasing matters for clients such as Marks & Spencers and McDonald’s. Practice head Olga Humlová acted for property developer HB Reavis Group on its acquisition of an office development project and for Raiffeisenbank on the financing of residential developments. Co-chair of the global real estate group, Evan Lazar is a ‘guru of CEE real estate’ who focuses on cross-border matters, and advised regional developer Orco on restructuring. Financing expert Jirí Stržínek was promoted to the partnership in 2010 and advised Unicredit on financing a commercial redevelopment project by Fim Group. Juraj Alexander is considered to be a ‘rising star’.

  • Changes in the Waste Management System

    The amendments adopted by the Parliament on July 1, 2011 to the Municipal Cleanliness and Tidiness Act bring revolutionary changes to the Polish waste management system. The Act is currently awaiting signing by the President. Once approved, the changes will become effective 12 months from the date the Act is published.
