Career

Giacomo Bonelli was born in Milan, Italy, on October 21, 1956; he completed law school at the State University of Milan in 1982 (J.D. magna cum laude) and was admitted in Italy in 1985. He is a member of the Directory of lawyers admitted to the Supreme Court of Cassation since 2002. His practice mainly focuses on intellectual property (trademarks, patents and copyright), but also covers unfair competition, antitrust, advertising, media, telecommunications and new technologies, areas in which he has acquired extensive experience assisting clients in non-contentious matters as well as in litigation. Bonelli is a regular contributor to the major reviews specialized in intellectual and industrial property, IT, and competition. He has been invited to speak at several conferences on intellectual property issues; he has held courses and seminars, also participating in his capacity as an IP expert in radio and television programs. He was a member of the Scientific Committee of AGICA (Cinema and Audiovisual Jurists' Association).

Other work includes acting for Montecristo in a dispute with Benchmark regarding an alleged infringement of Montecristo’s model rights, and representing Banca Popolare di Sondrio before the Consiglio di Stato regarding the constitutionality of a decree issued by banking regulation authority Banca d’Italia, which required the largest cooperative banks to convert to joint stock companies by the end of 2016.
