Hans Wegner’s main areas of practice relate to patents, utility models and designs in the fields of mechanics (e.g. sports equipment), physics (e.g. superconductors, measuring technology), telecommunications (e.g. mobile phone technology, multimedia) and hardware/software (e.g. PC production, databases).

He regularly represents clients in patent application proceedings before the German Patent and Trademark Office and the European Patent Office, including opposition proceedings. In recent years, he has successfully represented clients in many proceedings, particularly before the opposition departments and technical boards of appeal of the EPO.

Another area of Hans Wegner’s practice as a patent attorney involves enforcing IP rights before the patent chambers of the German civil courts as well as parallel nullity proceedings before the German Federal Patent Court. With his extensive experience, he is able to provide expert advice to clients seeking to establish a portfolio of valid patent assets.

In addition, Hans Wegner has frequently served as an expert in patent law for members of the German Parliament.

Dr. Hans Wegner regularly speaks on current issues of patent law, particularly on adversary patent proceedings and the wording of patent claims at seminars of the Heidelberg Academy. He is the author of the chapter on Germany in "Software Patents Worldwide" and of other publications relating to his practice.

Bardehle Pagenberg’s patent attorneys and attorneys at law have broad technical expertise with particular strength in matters concerning telecoms and mechanical and electronic engineering. Other areas of focus include software, IT and computer technology. The team, led by Johannes Heselberger, who is qualified both as an attorney at law and European patent attorney, and Tilman Müller-Stoy, advises a prominent client portfolio. Hans Wegner regularly acts for key client adidias in various patent infringement and nullity proceedings and Peter Chrocziel, who joined from *Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in February 2018, represented ST Microelectronics International in infringement proceedings at the Federal Court of Justice surrounding semiconductor patents. Other highlights include representing Intellectual Ventures in a multitude of patent infringement proceedings against prominent telecoms companies such as Telekom Deutschland and Vodafone, and acting for Nvidia in patent disputes between Broadcom and the defendants VW and Audi. Hewlett-Packard, Nintendo and Amgen are also clients. Stefan Lieck and Michael Kobler were promoted to the partnerhship in January 2018 and January 2019, respectively. Patent attorney Tobias Kaufmann is also recommended.
