Position

Stephen is a partner and head of the real estate department at Fladgate.

He specialises in all aspects of commercial real estate work, particularly in acquisition and disposal work, both freehold and leasehold, primarily in relation to the retail and leisure sectors and with general landlord and tenant matters. Additional areas of expertise include investment, secured lending, telecoms, development and portfolio management.

Stephen acts for clients ranging from family offices, private banks, entrepreneurs, private investors (both onshore and offshore) and quoted companies to leading operators in the retail and leisure sectors.

An example of the transactions on which Stephen has advised, include advising Otium Real Estate on its acquisition of the 109,000 sq ft Theatre District scheme in Milton Keynes for £16.75m and on all subsequent management and letting.

Stephen is a member and director of the Leisure Property Forum and his expertise in real estate is highlighted by Legal 500 and Chambers UK, the independent guides to the legal profession.

He joined Fladgate in 2012 after having been head of the real estate department at another firm.

Fladgate LLP‚Äôs multi-disciplinary real estate group operates across property, finance and corporate real estate mandates and performs each of these services to ‚Äėthe highest professional standards‚Äô. Headed by Richard Reuben, the department is especially active in the retail and leisure sectors and has a varied corporate tenant client base. Of note, Reuben assisted Turner Broadcasting System Europe with its pre-let of 98,000 ft in a new development at Old Street. Further, Gideon Dabby-Joory¬†advised Mindspace, a European co-working space provider, on all the property aspects of the opening its first facility in London, marking the client‚Äôs entry into the UK market. The team has acted for Odeon Cinemas for over a decade, and Mark Saunders¬†recently assisted the client with the opening of a 10-screen cinema in Bournemouth‚Äôs BH2 leisure complex. Additional retail and leisure sector clients include Monster Energy Europe, Paul Smith, Beaverbrooks the Jewellers and YO! Sushi. In the investment and development space, Matthew Williams¬†advised US-based Madison International Realty on the property aspects of its ¬£200m acquisition of a 50% stake in the Paternoster Square EC4 campus.
