Position
Ian is an insurance specialist acting for professional indemnity insurers and their insureds, in particular solicitors, accountants, insurance brokers, and construction professionals and construction companies; and also in coverage disputes for insurers. As well as being a solicitor, he is a part-qualified certified accountant. Reported cases/recent instructions: acting as ‘lead solicitor’ for a number of underwriters indemnifying solicitors in relation to the Accident Group litigation; acting for a firm of solicitors in relation to their defence of a multi-million pound claim that arose from a set of negligently drafted consumer credit agreements; acting for a firm of accountants sued for allegedly negligent advice upon the tax structure of a trust, giving rise to a multi-million pound claim; acting for a firm of insurance brokers sued for the negligent placing of business interruption cover for a famous West End restaurant, left under-insured following a subsequent fire; acting for Chartered Quantity Surveyors in relation to a six-figure claim regarding alleged inaccuracies in a large Bill of Quantities; defending various firms of architects in relation to claims concerning residential and commercial developments; defending a firm of engineers in relation to a claim concerning the design of a large commercial car park; and acting for various firms of engineers regarding claims for delay and / or alleged negligent design. Ian is dual-qualified (as a solicitor) in both England and Wales, and Ireland. As well as undertaking work for clients in the London and Dublin offices of Fishburns, he also jointly heads up the firm’s Bristol office.
