Position

His practice areas include international commercial arbitration, litigation, private international law, infrastructure and energy, corporate and commercial law, banking and finance law. He is regularly involved in major infrastructure, power, oil, gas and pipeline projects. His litigation experience mainly focuses on banking, corporate restructuring and insolvency, collection of money receivables, foreclosure of mortgage, negotiable instruments proceedings and letters of guarantee disputes.

Career

Admitted to Bar, 1955, Izmir; currently registered with the Istanbul Bar. He is the founding partner of Birsel Law Offices. As leading arbitration expert in Turkey, he is involved in numerous ICC, UNCITRAL and ad hoc arbitrations as either arbitrator or counsel and also in the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Turkey. Assistant, associate and full professor, Aegean University, 1957-83; founding professor, Dokuz Eylul University, School of Law; senate member 1971-74; vice rector, Aegean University, 1973-74.
