Position

Based in Antwerp, Yves is a Partner in Lydian's Commercial & Litigation practice and heads the Ports & Logistics team. Yves specializes in commercial law, litigation, port projects and logistics. He handles complex construction litigation matters and he also has experience in post-acquisition litigation work. Yves’ work also includes shareholder disputes. He regularly acts as trusted advisor to his clients on commercial matters, including advising, drafting and implementing legal documentation for his clients’ businesses. Furthermore, he advises clients faced with insolvent or near insolvent counterparts. He is a trained mediator.

Career

In 2002, Yves joined Lydian as a Senior Associate and became a Partner in 2006. In 1999, he was an Associate with Allen & Overry. Yves was admitted to the Antwerp Bar in 1999.

Member

Yves is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where he sits on the Leadership Committee of DRI International. He is also a member of the Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) and of the Flemish Management Association (VMA). Yves is also a member of the Antwerp Bar.

Education

Yves graduated with a degree in law from the Universiteit Antwerpen (UIA) in 1998. He took specialist courses at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) and at the Université de Paris (Paris I Panthéon- Sorbonne), obtaining a DES degree in economic law and a DEA degree in business law in 1999.

The 'solution-driven' and 'client-focused' team at Lydian is well known for its strength in insurance litigation, and reports an uptick in product liability disputes from the life sciences sector. Other areas of instruction include construction litigation,  white-collar crime matters, commercial and corporate disputes and competition litigation. The 'always available' Hugo Keulers heads the practice; Yves Lenders, Sandra Lodewijckx and  Annick Mottet Haugaard are other key names. The firm is acting for the Belgian subsidiary of Vivaldi Biosciences in a dispute relating to an alleged process development and manufacturing agreement between the client and biomanufacturing company Univercells.

The insolvency and restructuring team at Lydian  handles a range of reorganisations, M&A transactions and liquidation proceedings. The team was instructed by Verona, and a Belgium private equity fund as shareholder, in the judicial reorganisation of the company. Key names to note include Yves Lenders and Patrick della Faille, who are regularly instructed by creditors and in liquidations respectively.
