Wouter Neven is head of Lydian's Real Estate practice and co-head of the Regulatory practice. Wouter is also head of our Real Estate Developers & Investors department and co-head of the Public Sector and Wealth departments. On top of that, Wouter is a partner in our Energy department. Wouter has considerable experience in real estate, environmental and administrative law. His broad expertise is in real estate transactions combined with administrative and environmental aspects such as risk evaluation, financing, contract negotiations, funding and fiscal structures. Wouter has particular experience in guiding government contracts, negotiations with governments and government institutions, and in setting up agreements, financing agreements, liability arrangements, etc. Wouter advises some of the most prominent public and private companies, for which he has already carried out several take-over purchases, joint ventures, construction programmes and tax optimizing investments. He also advises on the conciliation of differences and on contractual urban planning matters.


Wouter joined Lydian on 1 January 2001 as a partner. He was Managing Partner of Lydian from 1 January 2013 till 1 January 2016. Wouter worked for the law firm Cannart & André-Dumont (now within McGuireWoods) from 1992 to 1993 and the law firm Sury, Vergauwe & Cols (now Van Lint & Partners) from 1993 to 1996. Later, he became a partner with Wery & Partners, where he worked from 1996 to 2001. Wouter was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 1992.

Wouter graduated in 1991 as Licentiate in Laws at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). In 1992, he further specialised (Master of Laws) at King’s College, University of London.



Within: Environment

Lydian is a destination firm in its own right for environmental work from large and mid-sized Belgian and international companies, as well as public sector entities. It also generates a significant amount of referral work from international law firms, thanks to the full-service capabilities of its team in corporate transactional work, enforcement of environmental law, litigation, advisory/counselling and energy regulatory matters. Practice head Wouter Neven, along with senior associate Kyoto Van Herreweghe, is advising Total on the environmental law issues associated with the expansion of its current site at the port of Antwerp. Senior associate Iris Hemelaer is another notable individual.

Lydian's real estate practice has a strong focus on developer and investor clients at a national and international level. Department head Wouter Neven has expertise in property transactions, and is known for handling commercial, retail, residential and office developments; he is leading the advice to BNP Paribas Fortis on the ongoing construction of the company's new headquarters in Brussels. Senior associate Bruno Stroobants is also recommended.
