Starting 13 May, we have officially changed our name from Attorneys at law Borenius & Kemppinen Ltd to Attorneys at law Borenius Ltd. We have adopted this new name because it is concise and easy to recognise both domestically and with our international partners.

Attorney at law Åsa Krook has been appointed Senior Advisor at Borenius & Kemppinen. Åsa advises in the field of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property law, counterfeits, marketing law and commercial contracts and she heads B&K's Brands competence.

Henriikka Piekkala will join Borenius & Kemppinen’s Helsinki office on 24 January 2011 as a Senior Associate. Henriikka, 36, transfers from the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (“Ficora”) where she acted as a Legal Counsel.

B&K attorney Risto Sipilä has been elected Vice President of the Finnish Bar Association for a term of 2010–2013.

A recent survey conducted by US-based Best Lawyers awarded Jyrki Tähtinen as the Private Equity Lawyer of the Year and Seppo Kemppinen the Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year for Finland. Additionally, Jyrki Tähtinen was listed as one of the leading lawyers in six different categories.

CAP Coalition Against Piracy (CAPIP) is a service network covering 29 different countries and consisting of 23 law firms in the EU, Norway and Switzerland. Borenius & Kemppinen is the Finnish member of the network.

B&K received top rankings in the Universum Professionals survey, which was conducted by Universum Finland in October and November 2009. The survey investigated which companies are considered ideal employers by their professionals. Employee career goals and the drivers for employer attractiveness were also researched.

B&K has signed 4 May 2009 a pro bono agreement with Icehearts, an athletic club formed to prevent youth alienation. This co-operation is part of B&K Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.

The Helsinki office of Borenius & Kemppinen Attorneys at law has been awarded the Green Office symbol and certificate as an indication of an environmental system that fulfils the criteria set by the WWF. With the help of Green Office, offices can reduce the burden they place on the environment and achieve savings in costs related to material and energy. Green office is a project launched by the WWF in Finland and the symbol has been awarded to 69 offices to this date.

B&K has established a new Russian Desk to serve Finnish and international clients looking to invest in Russia. Attorney Andrei Kuznetsov, 43, has been appointed to head the new desk. He took his law degree at the University of Moscow in 1991 and has worked in Finland since 1995.

Already in possession of solid know-how in the area of international ship finance, B&K now intends to start up a major shipping practice. As the cutting-edge expertise in this field used to be concentrated in only a few law firms in Finland, a merger is the obvious way to augment and consolidate B&K’s excellence in these sec-tors.
