Andrew Jackson Advises Heron on 18 Woolworths Store Purchases

March 2009

Hull law firm Andrew Jackson announces the successful completion of a deal for Heron Frozen Foods Ltd (“Heron”), which sees the retailer acquire 18 former Woolworths stores for an undisclosed sum.

Andrew Jackson's real estate partner Adrian West advised Heron on the acquisition of the stores, which are based at various locations across the Midlands up to the North East.  Heron currently trades from 140 stores based across the North & Midlands.

Adrian West said: "When Heron was negotiating to buy the Woolworths stores we had to act swiftly so as not to risk Heron losing the stores to rival bidders waiting in the wings.

“The acquisition was a significant transaction for our major local client and a success story for the retail sector. Despite the tight timescale all parties worked together to ensure that the deal was done on time.”

Jonathan Laverack, estates director at Heron, said: "The collapse of Woolworths surprised a lot of people and put a further dent in consumer confidence in the retail sector. However, Heron is endeavouring to buck the trend by continuing to expand and create jobs at a much needed time.”
